Rescue Me ID: 15-11-23-00733Beamer (male)
Beamer was saved form a hoarding situation - he was one of 12 dogs living in a home with no humans. He is a survivor. His foster mom says he loves people, though he has to get to know you first. He has no interest in other dogs and will walk right by them, but he does like cats. Once he's comfortable with you, he wants to sit on your lap and fall asleep. He knows basic commands, is housebroken and is not destructive at all. We have not had him around kids yet. Beamer needs work walking on the leash. He does take treats gently out of your hands. He is a special, wonderful boy who is very smart and willing to learn and please. He is estimated to be around 4 years old and is up-to-date on shots. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-19-00721Ulysses (male)
This young guy has had a tough go. He is not even two years old, and over the last year of his life has been spent in shelters and boarding facilities. He did have several mouthing/leash biting issues, so he was sent to the boarding facility for training help. He has made tremendous progress, but would still do best in a home with adults only, no other animals, and no children. Ideally, Ulysses would go home with an experienced handler. He does have a lot of energy and can be dominant, but he's also an awesome and loving little guy! If you fit the description of what he's looking for, please don't hesitate to contact me!!

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-23-00677Maybelle (female)
Meet Maybelle! About 6 years Old Basset Hound/Beagle Mix Maybelle was abandoned at a high kill shelter in Tennessee. One of our fosters has a soft spot for Basset Hounds and knew she had to save her when she saw this sweet girl's picture. She traveled to Illinois and has been fully vetted. Now this beautiful girl is ready for adoption and looking for a family that will love her as much as she loves them. One look into her eyes and you will be in love! She is so sweet and friendly, loving other dogs, cats and all people, definitely a people dog! It's so cute to watch her come to you for one of her favorites, belly rubs, with a smile on her face. Even though she does like to play, she is also laid back, mellow and rarely barks. She really enjoys going on her daily walks, and true to her breed, she likes to stop and smell along the way. Although she is crate trained, she would do best with someone home most of the day, since she loves attention and hanging out with her humans. She is a young 6 year old but, she has an old soul, and would enjoy a quieter home that will give her lots of love and attention. If you are looking for a sweet, mellow girl with lots of love to give, please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com . Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
