Maui is a sweet basset hound mix that came from Tennessee to find her FURever home. She is calm, good-natured and very affectionate. She gets along well with adults, children, and other dogs. She loves to be a lap dog, getting attention and being spoken to. Maui was an outside dog for her entire life and she is working on house training and is learning very quickly! As a puppy she is easily corrected with redirection. Maui is also a bit of a goof! She romps around the yard and makes sure she is near you...and then rolls on her back for a belly rub! She will leap into our arms if you invite her and give you plenty of puppy dog kisses to let ... (Read More)you know she appreciates the attention. Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, up-to-date on shots, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. Puppies require a home where there will be someone available to care for and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at safehavendogs@yahoo.com. (Less)

Fred is a 3 year old male basset that we have had for almost a year. When we first got Fred he was very food/bone/toy aggressive. My son was able to work with him and he was better----if kept in my son's room away from other animals and people. My son is going back to school and can't keep him. We found a new owner for Fred and that lasted 2 days, they are bringing him back. Please help. He was better, but he has growled and nipped at the new owners (he was trying to be alpha). We can't keep him. We have a baby in the house now and I'm afraid the baby will try to play with Fred's toy and get hurt. Please help us. The next step is ... (Read More)a shelter. We think he is a purebred but have no papers to prove that. (Less)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is Sweet Pea and I live up to my name, I am SWEET! I was saved from a shelter in Alabama and brought to Illinois with my 3 puppies. I am a very young mom at about 1 1/2 years old. I weigh about 25 lbs. The vets and my foster mom think that I am a Beagle or Bassett Hound on account of my short legs, long body, mixed with lab, maybe a Bassador? I enjoy going for walks and do well on my leash. I am somewhat shy, so I will need parents that understand that I have been through a lot in the last few months and I just need patience and a gentle hand. I am an absolute love bug, I love to be pet and sit close to my human ... (Read More)friends. I have quite the funny personality and I love to show it. I enjoy rolling around upside down on the floor and making funny noises. I live with several dogs in my foster home and I do fine with all of them. There are also cats here and I find them interesting. I have chased them, but I am learning that cats are NOT for me to chew on! I like children as long as they understand that it may take me a bit to warm up to them. I enjoy playing with dog toys, and I like sturdy toys and bones to keep me busy during the day. I am housebroken and I am crate trained, although I would prefer to have someone who is home most of the day to keep me company. I do sleep through the night in my crate, but I would prefer to sleep in my new parent's bed! If you'd like to add a cute, sweet, girl to your family, that's me! Sweet Pea's adoption fee is $295 and includes her shots, rabies vaccination, fecal test, deworming, micro chipping, spay, HW preventative, frontline, 30 days of shelter care insurance, and her first vet visit at one of our participating vets, Please email Kathy for an adoption application caseysdogs@yahoo.com. Your entire family must be present if you would like to make Sweet Pea part of your family. Our goal is to ensure that Sweet Pea is a good fit for your family and that you are a good fit for Sweet Pea. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

Baxter is a 5 year old Basset Hound/ Beagle mix. Current owners took him temporarily for an ailing parent, but are unable to keep him permanently and parent is now unable to take him back. Owners are forced to give Baxter to local animal control this week and so he needs to be adopted asap! He was abused previously, and is not good with other dogs or with children. Baxter is a sweetie and likes to sleep under the covers, but due to his previous abuse, needs an experienced adopter or a farm type environment where he only has contact with animals his own size or larger, and no children. He is protective of his people, and is neutered and ... (Read More)microchipped. He will (like any dog) take a few days to adjust to his new environment. He is currently overweight, (64 pounds) and should weigh about 54 lbs. Thank you! (Less)
