Rescue Me ID: 14-04-04-00498GUS (male)
How to explain Gus: Gus is approximately 10-12 years young, and weighs roughly 50-60 lbs. He is a lab/hound (??) mix. He likes attention from everyone he sees and even though he doesn't pull much on the leash he tends to gravitate toward all loose people in the world. He isn't really a snuggler but he loves to be on the couch with you. If you give him a room of his own plus free reign of the house, he will investigate for a while and then either go to his room to rest or sleep on the couch all day. He likes other dogs but because he is older he does better with the low energy friends. He is good around kids of all ages. He loves to go outside to explore but also likes to be loose, so a fenced in yard is best. He is also a Houdini so a reinforced gate would be best. He used to be on his own as a stray for 8 months so he likes to be either outside running around or inside sleeping. He is not food aggressive but does get a little pushy about treats so he does better with rawhide chews in his room. He is housebroken but due to his age does need someone who can take him outside more frequently. IF he barks when you bring him back inside then he is not done and still needs to go back outside. He is a sweet wiggle worm who is very loveable and deserves a good home with someone who can appreciate all of the love he has to give. PLEASE CONTACT BRIDGESDOGS@AOL.COM FOR AN APPLICATION TO ADOPT GUS OR CALL ELLEN AT 732-859-8915. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 12-12-28-00181Frodo (male)
Frodo is a 2-4 year old neutered male. He is a hound mix. Don't let this low-rider fool you! He can jump 3-4 feet. He is as fast as a Greyhound and very energetic. Frodo loves belly rubs, walks, and playtime chasing balls. He is a 'doggie death row' survivor. He is current on all vaccines, including canine influenza. Frodo is receiving heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He has been good with kids, but inappropriate with other dogs. Frodo needs training and socialization, as he is possessive of his food and toys.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Basset Hound in New Jersey
Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in New Jersey if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
