Cleo has been with me from day 1. Need to find someone who can take care of her and be with her during her senior years. As my life has changed, I can no longer have time to be with her like I would like. She is very calm and likes to be near people. She has trouble getting up from a laying down position and only hears low pitch sounds. Being close to people comforts her.

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-27-00082Gus (male)
Hi everyone, meet Gus! This sweetheart is a 5 year old English Setter/Bassett Hound mix. He is 34 lbs of pure joy. He never meets a stranger, he gets along great with everyone. He is good with kids and other dogs. He is a little curious about cats but not aggressive towards them. He is house trained, crate trained and loves to go on walks. He is a cuddler and loves attention. He would do best in a family environment where he can be adored and loved. He would also do best in a home with a fenced in yard. If you would be interested in providing Gus with his forever home please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application. Gus is being fostered in or around Charlotte NC (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-12-00253Elmo (male)
Elmo is a 6 year old Black Lab mix. Elmo has spent his whole life outside in a 10x01 kennel. When he came into foster he had never been inside a house. He has spent the few months just learning how to be a pet. He was very comfortable out in my fenced yard but would freak out in the house. He was afraid of everything inside. I had to actually go outside and leash him and dragged him in. Then it started to get cold and he finally decided that sleeping inside wasn't so bad. He will now come in when called and actually comes to the door and comes in own his own. Elmo has never gotten on any of my furniture or chewed up anything. He has been the perfect house guest. He has discovered the big fluffy dog beds that appears just before bedtime each night and boy has he become really fond of them. Elmo had never when for drive in the car and getting him in was quite a nightmare. We have been working on this for sometime now and he doesn't mind riding and is okay once he's in the car but is still a little hesitant about getting in. Elmo hadn't had much leash training and at first walked in 10 foot circles. Guess he was just so used to only having 10 foot to walk before turning the corner in the kennel. He is doing really good on leash. Does still pull a little but is doing better every time he's leashed. Elmo will come up to be petted but is not a real snuggy huggy kinda fellow. He is very loyal and will be right there with you and I'm sure with some time and patience he could become a snuggle bug. Elmo graduated from the 'New Leash on Life' program at the local prison where he spent 8 weeks being trained. He knows sit and stay really well. Elmo is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on prevention. Adoption Fee $150.00 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-10-28-00116Red (female)
Red needs a new home, and a new name. She is way to sweet for her plain name. Her previous owners locked her in a kennel and paid little attention to her. Red is now in a foster home and is so happy to have attention, but must stay outdoors as there is not enough room in the house. She just wants a family to love and be loved by. If your thinking of an adult dog please consider Susan and see if Red may fit into you family.

Short legs, with big feet and a long, muscular body. Very playful and gets along with other animals at ARC. All vetting is completed and she is ready to go to her forever home. To meet her, please call Linda (704)900-8019 to schedule a time and location. Or, come to PetSmart @1309 on Saturdays 1-5 PM South Tryon St. & Hwy 160, towards Lake Wylie. We don't know what these animals have gone through and endured, (or why) in their past lives to end up here. The only thing we can do is try, hope and pray we can give them a brighter future. We want our rescued pets to have stable, loving homes where they can get lots of love, attention and live out the remainder of their lives. Animal care can be expensive. Please consider whether you can afford and want the responsibility of a pet before you adopt so they never have to be homeless and end up in a shelter again. (Less)

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
