Rescue Me ID: 14-10-21-00481Lucy (female)
Lucy is a very friendly Basset/Beagle mix who enjoys following people around, cuddling in bed, and running along side other dogs at the dog park. At first she can be unsure of a new dog, but can quickly becomes friends if given enough time and space. She was found wandering around a construction sight, and sadly her previous family didn't come forward to claim her. Thus now all she desires is a forever home who enjoys walks and exploring as much as she does. If you are interested in Lucy please be sure to contact her foster family for more information, and possible meet up!

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-29-01027Oliver (male)
FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Oliver knows sit, down, stay, come and is currently learning the touch and bring command. He loves his clicker training; positive but consistent reinforcement is what he thrives on and needs. He is an absolute joy to have around, always willing and playful. His cuddles are the best, and he is excellent at playing fetch. Oliver needs to know in a gentle but consistent way that you are in charge and have everything under control. He is not very excited about strangers but will warm up to them with time. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Oliver was rescued by BFPA from a rural shelter. He came to us underweight, scared of many things and had no real experience interacting with other dogs or toys. In his loving foster home, he has blossomed so much into a confident little guy who learns at a fast pace. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-31-00003Brewster (male)
Brewster loves long walks, playing ball, napping and being loved on by adults. He is not a fan of toddlers. He has some anxiety and unpredictable things tend to freak him out. We have worked on this and it has gotten better in many aspects but we have a 2.5 yo very active son. He has snapped at my son several times and we have made the heartbreaking decision to rehome him to prevent injury to my son and allow Brewster to find a forever toddler free home. He has brought so much happiness and joy into our home and I hope we can find someone who he can do that for again.

Gracie is a beautiful small Hound mix. Gracie was pulled back to life from the brink of death. She was very near death and the vet wasn't sure that she was going to live thru the first night. She is a fighter because she did live and is doing wonderful. She is sweet and wants your attention and love so badly that she almost bowls you over in her eagerness to get close. She is spayed, utd on shots. She is crate and leash trained and is working on house training. Adoption fee $125.00

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-12-00253Elmo (male)
Elmo is a 6 year old Black Lab mix. Elmo has spent his whole life outside in a 10x01 kennel. When he came into foster he had never been inside a house. He has spent the few months just learning how to be a pet. He was very comfortable out in my fenced yard but would freak out in the house. He was afraid of everything inside. I had to actually go outside and leash him and dragged him in. Then it started to get cold and he finally decided that sleeping inside wasn't so bad. He will now come in when called and actually comes to the door and comes in own his own. Elmo has never gotten on any of my furniture or chewed up anything. He has been the perfect house guest. He has discovered the big fluffy dog beds that appears just before bedtime each night and boy has he become really fond of them. Elmo had never when for drive in the car and getting him in was quite a nightmare. We have been working on this for sometime now and he doesn't mind riding and is okay once he's in the car but is still a little hesitant about getting in. Elmo hadn't had much leash training and at first walked in 10 foot circles. Guess he was just so used to only having 10 foot to walk before turning the corner in the kennel. He is doing really good on leash. Does still pull a little but is doing better every time he's leashed. Elmo will come up to be petted but is not a real snuggy huggy kinda fellow. He is very loyal and will be right there with you and I'm sure with some time and patience he could become a snuggle bug. Elmo graduated from the 'New Leash on Life' program at the local prison where he spent 8 weeks being trained. He knows sit and stay really well. Elmo is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on prevention. Adoption Fee $150.00 (Less)

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
