ALEX Half Lab, half Basset - a Lab body with short legs. Born: 3/31/2009. Female/spayed. PLEASE READ SPECIAL NEEDS BELOW Owner, passed away July 12, 2015. The dog was been well cared for, perhaps too well cared for as she is overweight, 75 pounds. SPECIAL NEEDS Alex has physical limitations beyond her weight. Her left front foot is deformed as a result of a break that was never treated when she was very very small. She has adapted to it quite well but that and her weight have created joint problems. She must take two 75 mg Rimadyl (Carprofen) chewables or caplets,$88 for 60 count (may be cheaper online @ Petmeds). She has been eating Science Diet Weight Reduction kibble but this could easily be replaced with a less expensive quality diet kibble such as Iams or Purina. Rawhide strips and chews are not good for Alex, she will eventually throw it up. Alex is a very good natured, sweet, loving dog. She is not hyper. She likes to lay in the morning sun, chase flies and june bugs. She needs a good chew toy that will stand up to aggressive chewing. She likes a bit of 'tug of war' and will make a throaty, growly noise but she does not snarl or snap. She allows you to take away her toy, no problem. She does not chew on shoes or household items. She is a great indoor companion for a single adult or a couple who do not mind her limitations. She does not bark a lot but she will bark at strangers. If she knows you, she greets you with happy, excited noises and rolls over for her tummy to be rubbed. Because of her back and joint problems, she should probably not be around small children and pre-teens. Despite her sunny disposition, if she was injured and in pain because a child was climbing on her or rough-housing, it is possible she would snap. (Less)

Hi Hi Hi! My name is Lexington. I am a year-old, male Basset mix. I am neutered and chipped and up to date on all my vaccinations. I'm past the puppy phase, so I won't drive you nuts! I love all people and dogs, and I am well-behaved around the kitty in my household. I give lotsa love to the old dog here, but he can't keep pace with me sometimes. I need a new family cuz my present Mommy works a lot. She saved me from a bad situation when I was just a pup and made sure I got a healthy, happy start in life, but I need more playtime and snuggles than she can provide. I spend lots of time in my crate when I would rather be out playing! Please give me a forever home with (older) kids and/or dogs who will love me and play with me! contact: email@example.com (Less)

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Oklahoma if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
