I'm an adult lady Basset hound, and I managed to get lost and ended up in the City Pound on Morton Street. My owner didn't claim me so now I'm up for adoption. I've been moved to the DAWG House, 3307 S Eisenhower Pkwy, where the volunteers are caring for me.

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-15-00335Max (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Max is a four year old pointer/basset hound mix. He was living in a great home, but his owner surrendered him to a local shelter due to his own health reasons. I adopted him the day he was due to be put down. Max is a playful 60 pound dog who seems to prefer to be outdoors. He will need a good sized fenced yard, preferably with other dogs or children for playmates. We have had him for 2 weeks now and he gets along well with my other 2 smaller dogs (chihuahua and a terrier mix) and plays well with my 10 and 4 year old children. I have not seen any aggression at all, in fact, he's really a gentle dog. He will occasionally bark at people he is ... (Read More)unfamiliar with, but quickly adapts and wants to be your friend. He likes to have chew toys and play fetch. He is not house trained and does not particularly enjoy being in a kennel. He has gone on jogs with me on the leash around the neighborhood and does fairly well, but may need a bit more leash training as he tends to pull some. He has been to the vet and received vaccinations and was neutered (all records will be provided). Heart worm negative and he will come with preventative heart worm medication. I will be picky about the home and family he goes to make sure it is a good fit. If he does not work out for any reason, I will gladly take him back and offer a refund. Max would be a great family dog!! I am willing to drive Max to the right home within a reasonable distance. (Less)

Animal ID: 15344HotDog - In foster (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

HotDog is as loyal as they come. He and his buddy Austin (already adopted) were found together in a ditch on 2/2/2016. Austin was laid out - probably hit by a car, and HotDog stuck by his side. HotDog is super laid back and likes to be petted, and he likes other dogs. He is currently in a Foster2Adopt situation while receiving heartworm treatment.

Rescue Me ID: 15-12-24-00053Tyson (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Low Rider was his birth name because of his appearance, short legs with body very low to the ground and he is a mixture of a few different things. And boy does he have a story behind him. Tyson and his 9 siblings were born in my home after I rescued his very pregnant mother, her very pregnant daughter and another daughter just 6 months old. They had been dumped in a local park here in San Antonio, Texas. It was freezing cold and raining outside. His mother gave birth about 3 days after I got her and her daughter gave birth the very next week. A different rescue took in the pregnant daughter and the 6 month old daughter. All of the ... (Read More)puppies came out very different but healthy and happy. You know a female dog can become impregnated by up to 7 different males and surely this is what happened to Tyson's mother Paris. Miss Paris really had a diverse group of babies!!!! Tyson was adopted out by a family with kids and even though he was raised inside my home, they kept him outside. He escaped his fence and got hit by a car. Sadly the car that hit him left him there until Animal Control Services (ACS) our city shelter picked him up very injured. He lay all evening and night in a bed of ants that bite him all over. That car really hit him hard. Thank goodness for microchips, ACS notified me that they had one of my dogs. When I went to pick up Tyson, I was shocked at his injuries. I immediately took him to my vet and he spent a week there before coming home to heal even more. Tyson endured several surgeries and he is back to being a normal dog. He is happy, friendly and loving, also very obedient. Tyson was not returned to his adoptive family because they were not able to pay the enormous vet fees for his surgeries and care and they elected to return him to me. So I am trying to find the right forever home for Tyson. Tyson does run and jump, plays chase, wrestles and has no limitations. His back leg is does not bend completely because he had a steel rod in place for longer than normal to help the bones heal to prevent amputation. This is a dog with a very playful and sweet personality; he loves everyone and gets along with other dogs very well. I have attached pictures of his injuries, his mother & litter mates and current pictures of Tyson. I plan on posting a video of him soon so you can see him in action and know he has no limitations. Most of all Tyson loves kids and some human attention. He loves the camera; he weighs 37 pounds and a mixture of basset hound, beagle and who knows what else. You can see many more pictures of Tyson on our website: roxysk9rescue.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-11-24-00094Sweet Pea (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered

Adoption fee to defray some of the cost to spay and neuter other dumped dogs. For Houston adopters I can meet in Baytown, Conroe, or the Woodlands, Sweet Pea / Mostly Treeing Walker Coonhound/ Tricolor Black,White, and brown/ 65 lbs. This breed was developed to hunt small mammals like raccoons and opossums; but make excellent family pets. They are a fast, alert, hot-nosed hunter with superb endurance, treeing ability and the desire to perform. They are vocal with a distinctive bay that allows their owners to identify their hounds from great distances. It has a clear, ringing bugle voice or a steady clear chop with changeover at the tree. ... (Read More)Treeing Walker Coonhounds are loving, intelligent, confident, and enjoy interacting with humans. They make a splendid companion dog for an owner who understands the characteristics of the breed and is willing to work with their in-bred nature as a hunting dog. On the scent, they are tireless, alert, and intense. At home; they are mellow, sensitive lovers of comfort. Treeing Walker Coonhounds get along exceptionally well with other dogs and with children. Like most hounds, they are even-tempered and difficult to annoy or drive into aggression towards people or fellow dogs. These hounds respond even more poorly than most dogs to being physically punished, for instance by hitting or grabbing them. They are very loyal, can be trusted off-leash, and even trusted to stay within property bounds without supervision if you establish yourself as leader and train them properly. Sweet Pea personifies the characteristics of his breed. Sweet Pea is large dog with fluid movements and a joyful, playful temperament. Sweet Pea was been in the children's program several years as a favorite due to his friendliness, ease with working with other dogs. Although everyone loved his big goofiness, it took a large child to handle him on a leash. He pulls a bit and tries to lead you. Children are always safe with Sweet Pea . He is a perfect rider in cars and kennels well. I knew the family who owned Sweet Pea. They became overwhelmed with a large little of puppies and donated them to the summer program to work with children. Sweet Pea has performed splendidly in all situations as long as it is not an event with loud noises. He is very frightened by thunder storms and begs to come inside to his safe kennel. He had some harsh discipline before he was given up because he kept jumping the fence. We do have 5 foot fences and he does not try to jump out anymore but he can be easily frightened by harsh words. He seeks to please and takes a gentle touch. Off leash he is a beauty to behold, running free but looking back for a call to reunite with the master. He runs with a rhythmic pace that is beautiful. He loves to plunge into water and likes to pounce other dogs who are in the water before him. He has the characteristic bay of a hound and loves to howl with fire engines. I have always owned dogs and other animals. I had a career in education and recreation, serving in many capacities. I began dog rescue as a librarian when I asked children what kind of summer program they would like and they chose dog rescue, dog training, and dog therapy. I sold Labrador retrievers and Jack Russell terriers before I became a dog rescuer and realized that until a lot of change occurs in the attitude of those who abuse and abandon dogs there is no need to be a breeder, there are plenty of excellent dogs available that need help. I am in my 60s and have become overwhelmed with the number of dogs dumped. I need to place some so I can foster more. Sweet Pea has been neutered, has his shots, and is on heart worm medicine.     Corgi is the most unique dog PA4L has. Corgi loves people, especially when you give her belly rubs. Corgi doesn't play well with other dogs so she has to be an only child. But she has so much love to give you won't need any other dogs!! Corgi is not a puppy so you don't have to worry about all that puppy stuff like eating the couch, shoes, socks etc. And she was house trained according to her previous owner and loves all people, large and small. Corgi only came back to us because she was over weight and we fixed that. Come and meet our trim little Corgi with the big smile and loving heart.

Hey there! My name is Sammy and I am an energetic, playful and affectionate girl. I am also very decisive....I like interior decorating with my toys and I know exactly where I want them to be. My foster dad will gather up all of my toys in the evening and when he wakes up in the morning, I've put them all back in their proper place! I think he moves my things on purpose, just to see if I notice! I love to be around people and I am very affectionate. I'll spend time doting on you, in between loving to go on walks, and chewing on my treats. I have spent my entire life with my mom, Molly, and we are best friends! We sure do hope to find ... (Read More)a home w/ enough love for both of us! When we go for walks, I'm OK with the other dogs, so I'd probably get along in a multi-dog household. However, animals smaller than dogs, such as squirrels and cats usually realize it is a good idea to run away from me and I like to chase them! I am housetrained and cratetrained and love to cuddle in bed. I've been working w/ a trainer and walk well on leash and know all of my commands - and when we go for our walk, me and Molly are the talk of the neighborhood - we're VERY popular - all the neighborhood kids run up to greet us! I'm one-of-a-kind and love to be petted and loved on. I'm very adorable and would love to find a forever home! If you would like to meet me, please contact info@redcollar.org.
