She is a half basset half red coon hound, housebroken. She has a tendency to be dominating with other dogs, not sure about cats, her owners had kids and said she was great with them. She is house broke and LOVE people and attention. She does get along with other dogs, she just likes to be the boss. She is spayed and utd on shots. She is a great girl

I found this sweet girl abandoned at my job. She has been to the vet, current on vaccinations- will need rabies vaccine in about a month. Has been dewormed and is on heart worm and flea protection. Very sweet and loving gets along well with children of all ages, adults and other dogs. This dog is free to a good home and comes with a large kennel.

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-19-00393Winnie (female)
Short and sweet- that's what this little dog is all about! Winnie was found wandering as a stray in Lytle, and luckily some awesome folks decided that wasn't okay! They brought Winnie our way. This little girl is a true little hound- she loves to sniff in the dirt and will even move stuff around so she can get her nose right in! Winnie is a smart pup too- she's already well on her way to being house broken. She'll whine when she needs to go outside and promptly goes potty once you get her out. She isn't much for playing just yet, but she's still warming up to everyone. If you give her a pillow though, she'll fall asleep right next to you. Do you have a pillow for this little hound? |Rescue Me ID: 14-02-19-00143George (male)|
I found George in nearby woods in a starving condition. His ribs showed. His was timid at first but warmed up. He is very warm and loving. I posted him in the paper and with Rescues but he was not claimed. Someone in Houston noticed him on a Bassett Rescue page and offered to take him 3 months ago. I was contacted that it was not working out with her large pit bull dog. I drove to Houston and checked her home out before i even left George there. Safe home, but she has now received 3 more foster dogs and George isnt fitting in. He is housebroken. He like to eat and sleep and just be near someone who loves him.I could not leave him in the woods when I found him. I was actually looking for a neighbors dog who had ran off. He just needs an inside home to live out his senior years. He is white/brown/sable. I will send picture. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-05-00412Clyde (male)
In the 9 years together my husband and I have been dealing with Clyde having a bit of anxiety that we did not know was anxiety. There were times that he would growl at my husband if Clyde was on the couch, or my husband was telling him to go here or there (never harming, just being dominant basically), however, I read books and worked with him thinking that it was a dominance issue). The whole time I think my husband made him anxious as the man of the house, which baffled us because my husband was always the most loving to him actually. I came very close to taking him to a shelter New Years Eve because he almost hurt himself trying to get out of the kennel he was in while we had company over, ends up that it was anxiety over fireworks that we could not hear.Over the years he has developed an anxiety of storms approaching as well. It was baffling and heartbreaking but I was at the end of my rope. I have reached out to the local shelter here begging for help, but I am assuming they don't have room because I have never had a response. That is when I broke down and could not take him to the shelter because they let me know they had a euthanization program, I just couldn't do it no matter how miserable we are at home. I went to Petco and went to the vet to develop a medication plan for him. We have him on 2 Prozac a day and he is wearing a thunder shirt, it seems to be helping TREMENDOUSLY. He seems to be better spirited and his tail is up and wagging much more. It makes me sad that he was dealing with anxiety and we didn't know. Mostly because after I started having my babies 4 years ago, I slipped into a SEVERE downward spiral with SEVERE anxiety issues that have become a battle I hate having to fight. At this point I am still having a lot of issues with anxiety over him and what his actions will be. It is very painful for me physically (the constant sore and aching tension in my muscles) as well as mentally with the worry. I don't feel like I am going to get any better, nor will he if I am constantly redirecting him, and worrying. I know they can sense it all as well, we just aren't a good mixture anymore. He is great with my kids, has never done anything at all to them or towards them. I have always appreciated that from him! I have a 4 year old little fella and a 3 month old that he is very caring to. Since being on his medicine he has also not let out a peep to my husband, so I think that whatever anxiety he had towards men (or just to my husband) is gone too. It is just too far gone for our relationship, I must work on my health to become a better person and healthier overall. I never realized how serious my condition was until recently because it is non stop pain. I can't love him like he needs to be loved, nor take away any stressful resentment for all that I have dealt with over the years. He deserves a clean slate with someone that can love him so much like I used to before being put through the ringer the last 9 years. Now that his mental being is where it should be I really hope that he is able to find a home that he feels comfortable in that will have a loving new human owner. He has always been current on his vet records and I am happy to provide them. He has also been on Sentinal for years... We visited a very sweet couple for a couple of hours tonight that have a horse rescue and other animals, including 2 dogs. They all got along wonderfully! However, I received a phone call from them the next day and they asked me to come get him because he kept being dominant with their 9 month old and 8 week old puppies. I have never seen him not get along with dogs but I am wondering if it is because they are puppies and he should be in a home either with no other animals or older animals? He has always been well behaved and social with other animals when we have taken him to doggie daycares. This is mind blowing to me... Thank you for helping me! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-24-00096Nancy May (female)
Nancy May was in poor conditions as a 'rescue' where she was kept in an outdoor kennel for many years with her brother where she was not cleaned up after. Due to boredom and anxiety she chewed on the bars of her cage and now has no front teeth but can still eat fine. Surprisingly she is fine being in a kennel even though it's not necessary. She is fine when you leave the home. No accidents or chewing. Very calm but does like to play with other dogs. She is very short and weighs about 40 pounds but she's smaller than she seems. Would make a great apartment dog. I think she's mixed with a terrier. Home visit and vet references required. Adoption fee negotiable. Just want her to have a good home. She came into my home as a foster. I have no issues with her, just too many pets. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-12-14-00162Hormel (male)
Hormel- the most handsome Hound on the block! Did we mention gentle and easy going too? This guy is just too easy! He really enjoys his afternoon nap time, and after he wakes, he heads to the kitchen, nose to the ground, to explore the kitchen floor hunting for any fallen morsels he might have missed during snack time! Hormel is completely housebroken and walks like a true gentleman on a leash. He loves to roll around with his human foster siblings; they can tug on his ears, lean on him, you name it, he's just happy to have a friend! He loves other pups and will play for hours on end, until it's dinner time of course! Hormel is a jolly, happy guy - and EVERY household needs a little bit of that! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-07-18-00320Nikko (male)
My name is Nikko and I am about 2 years old and 30 lbs of fun! I love to play with other dogs and people too. I am just happy to be here because my previous family literally dumped me at a busy intersection and left me to fend for myself. Luckily some nice people took me in and are trying to help me find a home. While I love dogs and people I am not so fond of cats - actually they make me go crazy because I want to chase them. Oh and squirrels - love to chase them too. But if you want a loveable playful dog come meet me! Meet me! I will be available for adoption at our weekend adoption venues! To make the process more efficient, download, print, and fill out the adoption application: http://www.bustersfriends.org/dogadoptionapplication.shtml Please E-MAIL to assure the dog you are interested in will be attending the weekend event! OUR ADOPTION VENUES INCLUDE: 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 11:00am-3:00pm The Heights Petsmart #1780 (I-10 & Taylor St.) 1907 Taylor St; 77007 (713) 863-0533 (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Basset Hound in Texas
Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
