Meet our super dog Oscar....... Oscar is about 2 years old. He is a 35 lbs Bassett hound/Lab mix. His foster mom has this to say about him...... Oscar is a completely goofy boy. He is so funny and makes us laugh all the time. He loves other dogs and is good with cats too. He loves kids, but he has only been tested with older kids. Oscar needs a family that is going to play with him every day or a family who has another dog that is going to play with him. Did we mention that he LOVES to Play!!!!! He is also a good cuddler. After an hour of play time, he comes over on the couch and cuddles. He is house trained and crate trained. Oscar will make someone a great buddy! If you are interested in meeting/adopting Oscar, please email us at email@example.com or fill out an adoption application on our website at forgottendogs.org/adopt/application - Thank you!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-08-11-00409Long John (male)
This is Long John. Isn't he one of the most unique dogs you've seen?! Long John came to our shelter over two months ago. He was found by a volunteer tied to our fence. He had most likely been there for hours on a day with a heat index of 108. Despite all of this, he allowed our volunteer and her young daughter to handle him and even give him a shot. Since then, our live of Long John has just increased. Long John is about 11 months old and most likely a white German shepherd and Basset or Corgi mix. He weighs about 28 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. He is extremely sweet and calm and is our 'official greeter' at adoption events. His adoption fee is $60, which covers the cost of his neuter. Please contact the Navasota Animal Shelter at 936-825-6641 to inquire about Long John. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-31-00103Wally (male)
WALLY, is an adoptable dog being fostered in HOUSTON, TX. He is available for out-of-state adoptions (see below for more information on out-of-state adoptions). WALLY. Are you over that puppy stage, chewing on half of your home? Are you looking for a chill, easy-going, mature and friendly guy who'll be able to fit right into your household? Do you like the confident, low-rider types? Would you like to have a calm dog, who is quite content to follow you around like a shadow, and hang out while you watch TV or work on your computer? Don't look further! Because I may be your guy. I like being petted, but I am not the 'needy' type. I am fine with a few minutes of love and affection, and then I can go right back to my bed. I also love hanging out with my family - I can help prepare dinner, do laundry or watch TV. So anything I get to do with you is great! I have a low-key, go-with-the-flow personality. We can hang out and watch a movie, I can take a nap at your feet while you work, or I can take a nap if you want to do the same. Walks are fun and a little playtime in the backyard will keep me satisfied. You know what else...I stand PERFECTLY STILL for my bath - it doesn't phase me at all! I get along with adults and older kids. I'm ok with young children, but I'm a calm kind of guy and lots of hoopla might be a little too much for me. I will be a great dog for a family who enjoys peaceful times and leisure walks. Having a calm, polite fur-brother or sister will be ok too. I am crate trained and house trained. Once I learn the routine, I'm quite good! A perfect day for me includes sleeping at your feet, some ear and neck scratches, walk around the neighborhood, and lie leisurely around with a toy. I'm also up for a game of chase once in a while... especially if a squeaky toy is involved. If your family would enjoy a calm dog that likes the company of humans and a moderate level of play, I'm your loyal guy. What I lack in size, I make up for in heart! Age: 3 yrs Weight: 35 lbs Kids: older kids, preferred. Great with all adults. Dogs: good Cats: will probably chase them *********** Many of our adoptions are to out-of-area adopters. The process is, for the most part, the same as it is for in-town adoptions. The adoption fee to out-of-state destinations in the U.S. is $550, which includes air transport, traveling crate, and health certificate. The adoption fee for Canadian destinations is $600 (Canadian). (Please note that there is an additional estimated $80 pick up charge in Canada). RCR takes care of all of the flight arrangements. Below is an outline of our adoption procedure, once you submit an application. Because of the distance, it is not possible for you to meet the dog, in person, unless you come to Houston. We can often send videos and/or do FaceTime interviews to allow you to 'meet' the dog. If you would like more information on your dog, I can arrange to have his foster call you and we can send you some videos of your dog'in action'. Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston? Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. City and County shelters often take in a combined 200-300 animals per day. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average 'live release rate' from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. Houston is estimated to have over 1 million homeless animals. Over 100,000 are killed in Harris Co shelters every year. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-17-00442Fleetwood (male)
Greetings! My name is Fleetwood (my foster parents usually call me 'Big Mac' or 'Little Man'), and I'm very pleased to meet you! Now you may be thinking 'Fleetwood is an old man,' because I do not have the face of a young dog. But I assure you I am just a cute, sweet 7-month-old puppy who happens to look like an old man. Really! I'm the perfect age! It's hard to believe that not too long ago I was living on the street. I had no home and no one to love or who loved me. My luck turned when I crossed paths with a K-9 Angel volunteer, who scooped me up and whisked me away to my foster home. I LOVE having a foster home and a foster family! This is what they think my REAL family (the one who hasn't found me yet) would want to know about me. Even though I'm a low-rider, I can get in and out of the doggy door - I learned it on the first day, and my foster family was very impressed by how smart I am! I use the doggy door to go outside and bask in the sun - I really love lying in the grass on a sunny day! I also quickly learned to use the doggy door when I have to go poo poo/pee pee. That means I get free roam with my foster's own dogs when foster mom and dad are away at work. When there is another foster puppy staying with us, I love to play - tug of war with a rope is super fun! I also love to play chase, and you won't believe how fast these short little legs can run! I'm also OK just relaxing with the older pups or playing by myself with one of my many toys, antlers and old slippers. And did I mention that I love to play fetch with a tennis ball? I'm almost a world champion! I like to lie down in my crate when I'm tired - foster mom leaves the door open for me, so I can go in whenever I want to take a nap. I also love to sit real close to you when we watch TV, and I sit very patiently while foster mom makes my breakfast and dinner and when it's time for a treat. Foster mom lets me sleep in her bed when foster dad travels; as much as I like him, I love it when he goes away! I snuggle up real close to foster mom, and I don't move the whole night till it's time to get up for breakfast. I can't wait to have my very own family to love! It would be great to have a furry sister or brother, or even a human brother or sister age 6 or older. Would you like to meet me? I'd sure love to meet you and see if we have a love connection! Please come to the K-9 Angels Adoption Center this weekend, ask for Fleetwood, and watch the sparks fly! Fleetwood is a Male Basset Hound / Terrier Mix that we estimate to be born around January 12, 2016. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/adoption_process_k-9_angels_rescue.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. However, we only adopt young puppies locally, due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. NOTE: All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/k9angelsrescue. Thank you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-26-00674Tyson (male)
TYSON Low Rider was his birth name because of his appearance, short legs with body very low to the ground and he is a mixture of a few different things. And boy does he have a story behind him. Tyson and his 9 siblings were born in my home after I rescued his very pregnant mother, her very pregnant daughter and another daughter just 6 months old. They had been dumped in a local park here in San Antonio, Texas. It was freezing cold and raining outside. His mother gave birth about 3 days after I got her and her daughter gave birth the very next week. A different rescue took in the pregnant daughter and the 6 month old daughter. All of the puppies came out very different but healthy and happy. You know a female dog can become impregnated by up to 7 different males and surely this is what happened to Tyson's mother Paris. Miss Paris really had a diverse group of babies!!!! Tyson was adopted out by a family with kids and even though he was raised inside my home, they kept him outside. He escaped his fence and got hit by a car. Sadly the car that hit him left him there until Animal Control Services (ACS) our city shelter picked him up very injured. He lay all evening and night in a bed of ants that bite him all over. That car really hit him hard. Thank goodness for microchips, ACS notified me that they had one of my dogs. When I went to pick up Tyson, I was shocked at his injuries. I immediately took him to my vet and he spent a week there before coming home to heal even more. Tyson endured several surgeries and he is back to being a normal dog. He is happy, friendly and loving, also very obedient. Tyson was not returned to his adoptive family because they were not able to pay the enormous vet fees for his surgeries and care. So I am trying to find the right forever home for Tyson. Tyson does run and jump, plays chase, wrestles and has no limitations. His back leg is does not bend completely because he had a steel rod in place for longer than normal to help the bones heal to prevent amputation. This is a dog with a very playful and sweet personality; he loves everyone and gets along with other dogs very well. I have attached pictures of his injuries, his mother & litter mates and current pictures of Tyson. I plan on posting a video of him soon so you can see him in action and know he has no limitations. Most of all Tyson loves kids and some human attention. He loves the camera; he weighs 37 pounds and a mixture of basset hound, beagle and who knows what else. You can view more pictures on our website: www.roxysk9rescue.org ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIRED Roxy's K-9 Rescue does not have a shelter, all of our foster dogs are raised in foster homes. Each dog comes spay/neutered (fixed), up to date on vaccinations and rabies shots appropriate for their age, and dewormed twice. They are microchipped, heartworm tested and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $175.00. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. Our organization is run by volunteers/foster parents, please be patient to give us time to respond to your emails and/or phone calls. We will reply to you. Thank you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-18-00143Checkers (male)
Checkers is a very sweet senior Basset Hound mix that we pulled from the dog pound. Checkers is approximately 9 years young. He is active and playful X-rays and blood work show that he is a healthy dog. Checkers is a slight positive for heart worms - which means he only needs his regular monthly heart worm pill and he will eventually be heart worm free. Checkers loves to eat so he is very over weight and must loose the weight through diet and exercise. Checkers must have a home where he is as a loved member of the family. He does like to be outside during the day so he needs a secure yard where he can run and play. Checkers is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is current on heartworm and flea preventative. Checkers has a $75.00 adoption fee. Please contact Marianne at 2 Many Dogs if you are interested in meeting this sweet boy. We do adopt out of state and dogs are shipped to the northeast via ground transport for a total cost of $400.00 (including adoption fee). Baloo, (or the Golden sausage as we have nicknamed him) is the lovable, funny, best friend you have been looking for and he is the most chill dog you will ever meet! He is so relaxed and never makes a peep. He's the kind of dog who just wants to sit and binge watch your favorite show with you all day. He's also very loving. Every time you just look at him he wiggles with excitement! It will make your heart melt when you see how loving he is and you'll get a kick out of his happy dance! But as much as he enjoys his belly rubs and chill sessions he loves to go for walks! He walks really well on the leash, only tugging sometimes when hes found a really good smell he likes. He can't walk upstairs though but it's the funniest thing when his foster mom carries him up her stairs! He wags his tail the whole time and makes the cutest faces. He's a little chubby and that's ok because that's just more Baloo to cuddle. He is housebroken but sometimes he can't hold it very long so it's best to either go for frequent walks or for him to have easy access to the backyard. Baloo is waiting for you and will greet you with love and wiggles, so what are you waiting for, take your best friend home today! (Less)

Hey there! My name is Sammy and I am an energetic, playful and affectionate girl. I am also very decisive....I like interior decorating with my toys and I know exactly where I want them to be. My foster dad will gather up all of my toys in the evening and when he wakes up in the morning, I've put them all back in their proper place! I think he moves my things on purpose, just to see if I notice! I love to be around people and I am very affectionate. I'll spend time doting on you, in between loving to go on walks, and chewing on my treats. I have spent my entire life with my mom, Molly, and we are best friends! We sure do hope to find a home w/ enough love for both of us! When we go for walks, I'm OK with the other dogs, so I'd probably get along in a multi-dog household. However, animals smaller than dogs, such as squirrels and cats usually realize it is a good idea to run away from me and I like to chase them! I am housetrained and cratetrained and love to cuddle in bed. I've been working w/ a trainer and walk well on leash and know all of my commands - and when we go for our walk, me and Molly are the talk of the neighborhood - we're VERY popular - all the neighborhood kids run up to greet us! I'm one-of-a-kind and love to be petted and loved on. I'm very adorable and would love to find a forever home! If you would like to meet me, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. |PIease Read Before Adopting a Basset Hound in Texas|
Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
