Do you have room in your heart for a sweet older gentleman? If so, you should come get to know me. I am proof that age is just a number! I know that my left leg looks a little wonky. Some folks might even say it looks like it's in a 'L' shape. Please don't be alarmed. It's an old injury that just healed wrong. But don't worry, I don't let it slow me down. Just take me on a walk and you will see that I can run with the best of 'em. So what if I'm different? It makes me stand out. Being a beagle man, I love to sniff everything in sight. Not that you aren't interesting; smells are just the greatest thing ever. Also true to my breed, I can bark and bay quite loudly for someone of my small stature. The greatest thrill of all is hearing someone lovingly call my name. Say my name, I come to you. Say my name a few more times and I will melt into your lap. Throw in a nice ear scratch and you've got yourself a little lap dog. I enjoy the company of other dogs, and would love to find my best doggie friend. Come visit me today. Won't you call me yours? Seniors for Seniors adoption fee of only $30 available to adopters 55 and over. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-18-00099Holly (female)
Breed: Bagel (Beagle/Basset Hound) Age: approx. 6 yrs Gender: Female (Spayed) Weight: 21 lbs. Vaccinations: Current Microchipped: Yes Holly was picked up as a stray by one of the local county animal controls. She had two cherry eyes and an umbilical hernia. All of her medical issues were addressed and she is ready to go to her new forever home. She is a real sweetheart who loves to sleep under the covers with her foster mom. Holly becomes a bit protective of her foster mom with the four little Poodles and Chihuahua being fostered also. As you would expect of this breed, she has her nose to the ground always. She doesn't miss one smell! Holly would be great at scenting, which would really keep her busy. If you are that special family who would love to have a bed/lap snuggler to love on, please contact Esther or Dallas 757-583-8777 or e-mail email@example.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-15-00645Bouncing-Mady (female)
This little girl is a clown, entertaining, curious and a real bouncing ball. And yes, she acts a funny as she looks! Because of having short legs but being utterly nosy, she spends quite a bit of time on her hind legs trying to see and participate in everything humans do. Oh, and you should see her play with dogs, it's hilarious! First time pet owners should be just fine with her, although sometimes she has to be told who's the boss as she has a bit of a tendency to run the show due to her intelligence. Mady gets along with all other dogs. This little fur nose walks well on a leash, loves to cuddle and will follow around everywhere you go. If you're looking for a really affectionate, happy and clever doggy girl that's eagerly waiting for her new family call 804-695-7772 as soon as possible. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-25-00889Rerun (male)
Rerun was found in a ditch on the side of a road in Mechanicsville; he was lifeless, all of 11 lbs and literally a feeding ground for the mammoth sized fleas crawling in and out of his eyes. I took him home to clean him up, feed him, and give him a warm place to die in dignity, but he survived the night. I decided if he was going to fight for his life, the least I could do was get him medical attention. The vet addressed the immediate concerns which were Sarcoptic Mange, Hookworm, flea and tick infestations and heart worm testing. After 14 days of antibiotics he came into the care of the MAPR vets who discovered the need for immediate surgery on a hernia. Upon X-raying the area in his abdomen, the injury was in the shape of a boot that leads us to believe it was due to blunt force trauma. His intestines were leaking into his body. They also found two puncture wounds on his hind leg that would not heal. Upon further inspection they found a tooth imbedded into his leg. He spent three months in a large crate on bed rest due to the heart worm treatments and 2 months in an XL cone. Today, he is full of life and love. Mornings are his favorite and he loves to sit by the bed and just wait for me to wake up. He then runs in circles and bounces around to head outside and explore the yard. He still has a feverish appetite and has become a little sneaky goofball. He is always playing some prank around the house, climbing in grocery paper bags or getting stuck under the bed. His favorite things are the sun, a warm porch, a warm lap/couch, and a friendly back scratch. He is extremely low key and is truly looking for his lifetime partner in crime. Big Dogs tend to make him nervous and fearful, so he will not be adopted to a home with large dogs. He does fine with small dogs (Less)

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
