I do better with women but please do not hesitate to call if you are a soft-spoken gentle man. Hi my name is Oscar and I am a cross between a Basset and a Dachshund - how awesome is that? A while back my family forgot to pick me up from the dog sitter so they brought me to a shelter in northern Wisconsin to find a new home. Later I was transferred here to Washington County Humane Society (WCHS) in Slinger and I am very optimistic about finding my forever family. In my new home I do want to be your one and only dog because other dogs make me very nervous; I really prefer people to other dogs. But cats would be OK though - cats do not scare me and I am very respectful of their correction. I do prefer women and I am somewhat uncomfortable with kids. Any children in my new home should be 15 years or older because I get nervous with fast movements and loud noises; I also tend to guard my resources a bit. I do not like it when people are around my food bowl or when I am enjoying a goodie. I am hoping that my new home will help me work on this behavior. The shelter staff has all sorts of great tips to help me slow down when I eat and be more comfortable with people when I am eating. I am pretty good about all sorts of handling. I turn it into a silly game and will roll over so you can scratch my belly and I can rub all over you. I am about 9 years old and I am looking for a calm household where a distinguished gentleman such as myself can flourish and enjoy a life of leisure. I am a friendly, affectionate and clever little guy who knows how to sit and come when called. I will show you how well I can do those things and then impress you with how gently I take a treat. I am the absolutely perfect size for any home - about 30 pounds and I have a gorgeous auburn coat. Stop by to meet me in person and check out how adorable I am - I am sure you will fall under the spell of my profound brown eyes and we can have a wondrous life together. (Less)

Buddy is a sweet, energetic boy we adopted from Eastshore Humane Society about 7 years ago. He's somewhat suspicious of men, and doesn't like sudden noises like fly swatters. He's been very unhappy since my husband and I divorced and my daughter and I moved back to the city. He needs someone who has the time and attention he so desperately craves, and we want that for him.

Basset Hound Dogs can make good pets in Wisconsin if they match your IifestyIe. The Basset Hound is an exceptionally gentle, friendly dog that makes a great family pet. Basset Hounds are great with children. They require some patience to housebreak. Basset Hounds can do tricks, especially for treats. If overfed, a Basset Hound can quickly put on weight which strains its legs. Basset Hounds need plenty of exercise to stay healthy, but should be discouraged from jumping so as not to stress their legs. Basset Hounds can live in an apartment but need long walks and opportunities to run and play.
