Basset Hounds were given to George Washington by Lafayette after the American Revolution. A Basset Hound can smell almost as well as a Bloodhound. The image of a Basset Hound was popularized by ads for Hush Puppies shoes. Basset Hounds are celebrated in several annual American Festivals in which a king and queen Basset Hound are crowned. A trio of Basset Hounds called The Happy Basset Hounds is famous for performing around the world.
